  • Madden Ultimate Team Weekly Deal #1

    Madden Ultimate Team
When I first sat down with Lead Designer Josh Looman to discuss Madden Ultimate team, I was immediately drawn to the concept of Weekly Deals and the infinite number of ways that we could use them to interact with the community. For those of you who are unaware, Josh has the ability to create and upload cards on the fly for the weekly deal feature in Madden Ultimate team, which in turn gives all of you the opportunity to select and set the ratings for players.

How will this work? We will be offering two Wild Card Weekend cards this week that will go on sale Wednesday afternoon. Before the cards go on sale, everyone will have a chance to post their ratings recommendations for these cards in the comments section below. The best part is that if we choose your player rating settings for the card, you will receive that card or the coins to purchase that card for free.

Here are this week’s Limited Edition cards from Wild Card Weekend:

    Kurt Warner

Warner had a near perfect weekend going 29-33 for 379 yds and 5 TD’s. How would you rate his performance in leading the Arizona Cardinals into the Divisional Round of the Playoffs? Was it worthy of a 99 OVR? Does he deserve 100 accuracy across the board?

Here are the categories that we are looking for a ratings breakdown in with 100 being the highest score possible:

    Overall

    Awareness

    Throw Power

    Speed

    Injury

    Throw Accuracy Short

    Throw Accuracy Mid

    Throw Accuracy Deep

    Agility

    Ray Rice

Talk about setting the tone for a game. Ray Rice did just that as he broke the first play from scrimmage off for an 83 yd TD run, leaving the Patriots in unfamiliar territory. Rice would finish the day with 22 Car for 159 yds and 2 TD’s with an astonishing 7.2 YPC Avg. Where does this performance rank in your playoff memories?

Again, here are the categories that we are looking for a ratings breakdown in with 100 being the highest score possible:

    Overall

    Speed

    Acceleration

    Carry

    Elusiveness

    Agility

    Trucking

    Awareness

    Ball Carrier Vision

Both cards will be Limited Edition, but we have not made a decision yet on how many we will offer up to the community? What do you think? Each card will sell for 2,000 Coins. Don’t forget to copy and paste your ratings choices in the comments section below, and when you do, don’t forget to include the players name along with your Gamertag/PSN ID and console that you play on so that we can award you the free card or the coins to purchase the card if we choose your settings.

Madden Ultimate Team was released early today and lots of people have already started playing it. Everyone starts off with some of the worst players the game has to offer, I had no player with an overall rating of 70 but I like the idea of playing to get more players. It is a very fun thing and it introduces me to new playbooks that I have not used in the game yet. You immediately feel how bad the players are since some of the receivers can’t catch and the quarterback can’t throw. You really need to change your normal game plan to play with these players.

I noticed that you can only start the players in your starter pack 10 times before they expire meaning you will need to buy a new pack soon to replace them.  So the question is, will you be able to save up for the 9000 coin pack without your entire roster expiring or having to pay?  I know $3 is not a lot of money but I just don’t want to pay since those players will expire as well.

Overall, the game looks like fun and hopefully glitchers won’t find a glitch that gets them 10 million coins.

New York Jets vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Now I know that the Bengals got destroyed last week. They’ve now lost 3 out of 4 and have some injuries to deal with. The Bengals might not have Chad Ochocinco or Domata Peko for Saturday’s game and they placed Rey Maualuga on IR. The key is to get both Ochocinco and Peko back and starting. Peko is a big guy that can shut down the run, which is something that Cincinnati had trouble with last week. Ochocinco is the main guy in the receiving core and if he is not playing, the Bengals will have to rely on the run. However, both of these guys practiced on Wednesday and should be ready to go. On the flip side, the Jets might not have the services of David Harris, their solid and underrated middle linebacker, for the game.
My Pick: Bengals. I just can’t see the Jets beating them twice but we’ll see.

Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots

The Ravens managed to secure a playoff spot after beating the Raiders Week 17. The key for them now is to prove that they deserve to be playing in the playoffs. These two teams faced off in New England Week 4, a game that the Patriots won 27-21. The difference is that the Patriots had Wes Welker in that game. Welker, who ranked 1st in receptions during the regular season, will not play and it might hurt New England’s offence somewhat. With him being out, I can see Randy Moss being targeted a few more times, especially since the Baltimore cornerbacks are average and not all that tall.
My Pick: Patriots. I don’t know if the Ravens can have the run they had last year in the playoffs.

    Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys

We’re seeing something out of the Cowboys that we haven’t seen in a long time: Them winning in December. And technically, they did win in January. Tony Romo has been leading his team to the playoffs and is looking almost MVP like. If he can continue with his success and their defence can keep on shutting the door, the Cowboys might be the team to beat in the playoffs. Then again, we haven’t seen them in the playoffs yet and the Eagles are a tough team to beat twice. However, Philadelphia has to make up for the disappointing loss last week. The Eagles could have been sitting back at home watching the Wildcard round on TV if they were to win last week.
My Pick: Cowboys. I know they sucked recently in the playoffs but I can see them beating up the Eagles once again. The new stadium is going to be rocking Saturday Night.

Green Bay Packers vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Packers have been one of the hottest teams heading into the playoffs. They are 4-1 in their last 5 games and had a huge win against the Cardinals last week. They have also outscored their last 2 opponents 81-17. Now they head back to Arizona with some swagger. The Cardinals come into this game knowing what it takes to make the Super Bowl. Both have great quarterbacks, pretty good run games but Green Bay does have a better defence.
My Pick: Packers. Too good of a defence for me to pick Arizona, but it will be a tight game.

  • How to stop the Nano Blitz
    by Maddenholics
    Posted January 1st, 2010 at 5:06 pm

The majority of Madden players are SIM players and may not like to use “cheesy” blitzes because they say it’s unstoppable.  That’s false!  Nano blitzes are stoppable and I’m going to teach you how to stop the majority of them.

First, how do nano blitzes work?  They work by having some of your blitzers keep some blockers busy while another sneaks in gets instant pressure.  The majority of nanos bring pressure from the inside.  Some players know that the nano is coming and they STILL try to do plays under center, are you crazy?  If you’re going to call a play from under center, I recommend using HB Stretch which can be found in multiple formations and playbooks.  It’s very hard to get pressure from the inside when doing that play, and it usually gains positive yardage.

The most common (and my favorite) way to stop blitzes is to come out in a shotgun play with two running backs on your side.  You want to choose a play where they will be on a route towards the flats.  You will want to throw quick throws.  Once your opponent adjusts to that, you may want to catch them off guard by setting both running backs to block.  Then set your offensive line to pinch using the slide protection feature.  After that, try to have your other receivers run a route towards the inside such as a slant or a drag route.

After you have mastered all that, what happens if your opponent uses bump and run and your receivers are being bumped for up to 5 seconds and you can’t get the pass off?  First, I like to have my receiver set to a slant route.  Second, you want to make their route “unbumpable”.  To do this, highlight the player you wish to pass to as though you’re going to motion him.  Set him to motion towards the other side of the field, he should turn around and at the moment when he has completely turned around (but has not started running his motion) hike the ball.  You may have to practice this in practice mode to get the idea.

There are many nano blitzes out there, but if you learn how to stop these, you will figure out how to stop other ones by adjusting.
